In the wake of Hurricane Helene, many residents of western North Carolina are left grappling with the aftermath of this extreme weather event. According to the most recent figures reported by the North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management,
- Thousands of homes in our area were destroyed by Helene
- Between 121,000-132,000 residences sustained damage from Helen
- Homeowners sustained more than $12.2 billion in residential damages
- Only 7.5% of those with FEMA verified flood damage had any flood insurance coverage
- At least 500 homes will have to be rebuilt due to the destruction
