As 2018 comes to a close, we pause after sharing Yuletide moments with family and friends. We here at A Healthier Home considered what we could possibly offer that would create more health and happiness for our clients in the days ahead. For nearly a decade, educating our clients about their home’s healthiness is often a source of comfort and joy for for each family, and for us. It’s always been our desire to create a healthier, happier future for the Southern Appalachians one home at a time.
Not surprisingly, we’re not the only ones making a list – and checking it twice!- of those items that determine homeowner awareness of home healthiness.
In 2014 and 2016, the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University began to ask consumers about home healthiness and report their findings from qualitative research reports. Then, in 2017 and 2018, thought leaders in the health homes industry cited both quantitative and qualitative resources – as well as anecdotal evidence – to assert the emergence of a trend toward healthiness as a factor considered in increasing numbers of home sales.
Without doubt, increasing attention is placed on healthiness in the home environment, and it’s impacting personal as well as regional economy.
Of course, Western North Carolina has been widely considered a leader in the green, sustainable and healthier homes arena for more than a decade. That’s why we at A Healthier Home have decided it’s time to conduct our own survey regarding healthy homes issues that pertain directly to homeowner awareness and actions taken.
Once the popcorn is gone and the flames turn to embers, take a moment to reflect on your household’s health and happiness this year. If you reside in the Southern Appalachians, consider sharing your healthy homes insights by answering a few simple questions between now and January 15, 2019. We’ll compare our regional audience’s data to the Harvard survey results using the same questions and categories of response. Then, in February, we’ll collate the results and report on our findings.
Thank you for your participation in the A Healthier Home Survey of the Southern Appalachians.
